We have spoken at great length about the personality of a Swift owner in our previous posts. About how a Swift owner would never shy away from a challenge and how the bond between him and his Swift is a lot more than that of just a car and its owner. That’s why a Swift owner would never do anything to damage or harm his Swift and his Swift would never give up on him in the direst of situations. This is what makes a Swift owner a risk taker by nature and 2012 is all about taking those risks and living the Swift life.

There are several adventure sports which adrenaline junkies thrive on, it gives one the feeling of being superhuman and performing acts that require a nerve of steel and a will to pull off the impossible. Let’s take a look at one of the most popular adventure sports, bungee jumping.  

Most people get a thrill out of jumping off a really high diving board into the pool but imagine the adrenaline rush when you jump off a structure that’s soars to the sky. Standing on the edge of a mountain with just the elastic chord tied to your ankles, and taking one look all around you to admire the view that engulfs you. After that all you hear is the final countdown and all that’s left, is to take the leap of faith and feel like a bird, free-falling through the clouds at uncontrollable speeds. If you want to make sure whether you will be able to handle the bungee experience, you could head over to Rishikesh, which has India’s highest bungee platform, which stands at 83 meters. This would be a good start to see whether you have the will and the nerves to survive a bungee jump.

Unbeatable Performance, unbeatable Swift

One wouldn’t mind buying a decent looking car whose performance is brilliant, but a good looking car with mediocre performance wouldn’t be considered by many. The secret behind the success of any car is performance; it’s what sets apart one car from another. The petrol variant of the Maruti Swift is powered by a 1200cc patented K-series engine. The increased power output of 87ps makes for a much quicker and responsive driving experience. This creates more durability and considerably cuts down the friction in the engine. The new Swift boasts of a better mileage than its predecessor, 18.6kmpl to be precise. The K-series engine’s are very light weight as they are all aluminum, this makes for a superior power to weight ratio and also increases the spark plug life to 40,000km and oil change intervals to 10,000kms.

The diesel variant comes to life with Maruti’s award winning DDiS engine. The flawless tag team of the turbochargers and intercoolers initiate efficient combustion which adds to the torque. The 16-valve cylinder head makes fuel combustion more efficient and emissions cleaner; this boosts the mileage to 22.9 kmpl. Diesel cars are always more expensive to maintain compared to petrol variants, however, the Chain Drive Timing System and Auto Tenstioner initiate accurate valve timings which make the engine maintenance free.

Another thing that sets the Swift apart from the clutter is the RBSS (Rally Based Suspension System). This system makes the car more robust and boosts the ride quality. The new Swift is lighter in weight compared to its predecessor which helps improve the overall driving dynamics

The Swift is also equipped with a next generation ABS braking system, which includes Motor Speed Regulation which keeps all the control in the hands of the driver. To add to this, the Swift has a Boost Assist System (BAS), which makes stopping in emergency situations a piece of cake.

These are just a handful of things which set the Swift apart in a league of its own. After all, there is a reason why the Swift has been the only car to win the ICOTY (Indian Car of the Year) award twice, once in 2006 and now in 2012. The Swift has always been the epitome of its segment and has been looked at as an example to follow, by all other car makers.

We have spoken about the relationship shared between a Swift owner and his Swift in previous blog posts; however, let’s look at this same relationship in a little more detail. The Swift is the epitome in its segment; it’s looked up to by all the other hatchbacks. There hasn’t been a single car till date which could match the popularity and sales that the Swift has achieved time and time again. It has won the prestigious ICOTY (Indian car of the year) award twice; this is a feat which no other car has ever achieved.

All Swift owners realize this and are proud that they own Swifts'. It’s what sets them apart from the clutter and gives them an identity of their own. The Swift is not just any hatchback but it’s the hatchback to own. Many may say the Maruti 800 was more of a success, but one seems to forget that back when the Maruti 800 was the top selling car, people had a mere handful of options to choose from. Today, even keeping track of the names of all the hatchbacks being launched, is a difficult and cumbersome task. The options are numerous and mind boggling. We were excited about the trip. It started to drizzle as I started Ganeshpyari. You sure, you wanna start the journey in this weather? asked Meera, an eyebrow raised. Don't worry, our Ganeshpyari won't let us down, I replied. 

This shows us the extent of love, care and confidence one feels for their Swift. It’s not just a car but as good as a best friend and companion. Every Swift owner firmly believes that their Swift will never let them down and pull through in the direst of situations as seen in the above travelogue.

Victory for some isn’t an option but the only way forward. The attitude which a handful of people possess, one that screams out never say die, is what drives these people forward to achieve everything they set their sights on. The Swift is a car, which leaves anybody who looks at it in complete awe and creates a wave of envy towards the person sitting in the driver’s seat. The Swift won the extremely prestigious Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award for 2012, this was across all the car segments and proves how superior the Swift really is. The ICOTY award is the most prominent and prestigious award in the Indian auto car industry as, a jury of people across all the major automobile bodies such as top gear, autocar, overdrive etc come up with a collaborative decision as to which the Indian Car Of The Year (ICOTY) should be. The Swift has won this award once before in 2006 when it was first launched.

Winning such prestigious awards again just shows how this car has always been the epitome, not only in its segment but also across the entire automobile industry. There is obviously a reason as to why you see a Maruti Swift on literally every nook and corner of every street across the country. 

Swift at the Auto Expo 2012

2012 began with a huge bang for the Indian automotive industry, as the biggest auto show in India, the Indian Auto Expo commenced from the 5^th of January and concluded on the 11^th of January 2012. This was a whale of an event, which featured over 1500 participants from over 23 different countries all showcasing their vehicles and vehicle components. Maruti Suzuki being the largest Indian car manufacturer had an enormous pavilion showcasing all their cars.

                                                                                      

The theme for Maruti Suzuki’s pavilion was “Way of Life”. This revolved around the fast paced and high-powered lifestyle, which we are all a part of today. The pavilion showcased an array of automobiles that were divided into five different zones, which showcased their cars on the basis of their segment and style. The most alive and energy fuelled zone namely the “Sporty” fleet was the one which included the Maruti Swift. This zone showcased the most awe-inspiring cars that Maruti produces.

At the Auto Expo this year Maruti Suzuki showcased a futuristic and further evolved version of the Swift, the Swift Night Rider. This car was a shade of maroon and its metallic finish made it look leagues above any other car you have seen before. Having some beautifully crafted side skirts and front, rear bumpers gave the Night Rider an edge above everyone else.

The Night Rider was the life of every moment so to speak, it was always the centre of attention and nobody could help but stare at it with the biggest inner wish of owning one someday. Just looking at the Swift Night Rider made one realize how unforgettable and exhilarating an experience it would be, driving one.

The Night Rider is a concept car, which means its still in the testing and development stages. But this maybe what Maruti Suzuki has planned for the future. With our very own Swift just getting better and better with time it would be no surprise if a few years down the line the Night Rider we all have fallen in love with was available for us to own. That would be a dream come true for many of us.
