What is so brilliant about the gadgets is their simplicity - Desmond Llewelyn

A gadget is anything which serves many purposes and makes a task much easier to perform. The history of gadgets dates back to the 1800’s, where people like Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell anticipated how obscure things like a telephone would be a part of everyday life decades later. Today, there are extremely few areas which are yet to be simplified with the help of gadgets. In short, gadgets make our lives a lot swifter, let’s look at how.

Gadgets are great fun: Every now and then we see a gadget which leaves us in awe, and wow being the only word on our lips. We each have our reasons why we love gadgets, for some it’s the games, for others the functionality. However, I think it’s simply because gadgets are like toys for grownups. We enjoy them in every way possible, right from their design to their many uses, the iphone being the perfect example of this.
The all new iphone 5

Gadgets save a lot of space: Gadgets help us save a tremendous amount of space. This is because they perform the functions of several products in one. For example, all smart phones and blackberry’s today make it possible for one to do almost everything you can do one a laptop or computer. You no longer need to carry your laptop around to send emails and make presentations on the go; it can all be done on your smart phone.

Gadgets have multiple uses: Most gadgets serve many purposes; they are multi-use products. Right from a printer which also serves as a scanner and Xerox machine to a Swiss Army Knife which has between 10-50 products in one, gadgets are all about being multi-use.

Gadgets equal convenience: Gadgets make tasks a lot easier and create a high level of convenience. A good example of this is a watch which can monitor the distance covered, steps taken and calories burnt while you take a jog or even an armband where you can place your ipod to ensure your hands free while running is a great gadget.

These are just a handful of reasons why we are surrounding by, and to an extent dependant on gadgets. If you know of any other reasons why we always sought after the latest and coolest gadget, feel free to share them with us in the comment box below. Also if you want a sneak peak of the latest in the gadget market, give our Swift Life magazine a read. It’s available to all, on our official facebook page.

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten -Sir Henry Royce

Sir Henry Royce, who along with Charles Rolls founded Rolls-Royce.

Much has been spoken about the close knit relationship between a Swift owner and his Swift. Now let’s look at a person who is living proof of everything we have spoken about.

Mr. Narendar Singh, a 40 year old TCS executive, had pondered over the thought of buying a second car for quite sometime now. Being a Swift (petrol variant) owner already, his wife and kids urged him to explore his options, since the Indian automobile market today, offers one an array of cars to choose from.

On the insistence of his family he checked out various other hatchbacks in his desired segment and budget. But every car he saw and test drive lacked that special something which he was so familiar with. Some lacked space and some had poor mileage, all in all he couldn’t find a worthy counterpart for his Swift.

After lots of thought and contemplation, Mr. Singh made up his mind, and went ahead and booked another Swift (diesel variant) for his family. Owning two cars of the same model may sound ridiculous to some, but if you love and know your car inside out, it is a sensible and logical decision, as buying a car involves a lot of money, and nobody wants to buy the wrong car and regret it for years to come.

Mr. Singh is one of the many Swift owners who would never be happy driving anything else. When asked why he chose to buy another Swift instead of the numerous other options he exclaimed "On all counts, I found Swift better than the others at that price. Also, as a Swift owner, I am 100% satisfied with the car,"

Some men take good care of a car; others treat it like one of the family.

We’ve all heard of boys and their toys, it’s a commonly used phrase to describe how as a boy grows into a man, action figures make way for cars and other cool gadgets. However cars top the list, rarely would you meet a guy who isn’t into cars and who doesn’t already have a list of the top ten cars he wishes to own already prepared and thought through. The relationship of a man and his car is far beyond that of a person and an inanimate object, it’s a relationship that is based on love, respect and pride. As they say a man’s car reflects him as a person. For many, the Swift has proven to be that dream car and being the only car in the Indian market to ever win two ICOTY (Indian car of the year) awards, its no surprise why!
Take a look at one instance of a Swift owner talking about his swift with utmost pride and passion by writing a travelogue of a road trip he recently made in his car. This is what Mr. Deepak Kajal from New Delhi had to say after his first road trip in his prized swift.

“I quickly finished mywork in the evening and headed towards Mussoorie again as I was free for nexttwo days arose to surprise that my beast (my swift) climbed all the way in thethird gear, that showed the power my car possessed. I reached Mussoorie ataround 6 pm and again to my surprise one of mycousin(who was already there with his team trip) found me there. We simplybooked a room near Ghandhi chowk and next day enjoyed Kempty falls, Sir GeorgeEverest House (It was the most amazing point that thrilled both of us as the wayto reach there was full of pits, stones, sloppy and slippery but for my Swiftit was nothing) and the view from Everest View point was astonishing. We spendsome three hours sitting on the cliff must say that if you’re in Mussoorie youmust visit this place. Finally I started forDelhi at about 2130 hrs and reach home at about 0300 hrs in the early morning. The performance by my Swift VDI was superb and made me start planning roadtrips to other destinations like Manali and Rohtang.”

This experience shows us how a Swift never disappoints its owner and in this case, drives its owner to think about future plans to make and destinations to visit. This is one of the several reasons why the Swift is the most sought after car in its segment and will always be the epitome in its segment.

Without music life would be a mistake -Friedrich Nietzsche

This was a quote by one of the most famous philosophers ever to walk the face of the planet. Music is all around us in so many different forms, whether it’s the bird chirping when you wake up every morning or the sound of the rain pouring down while you’re trying to sleep, there is music of some form in everything you hear. Music brings us all together; it rids one of all boundaries, discriminations and barriers. You can sit down with your grandfather and enjoy a song with him, even if you have nothing to talk about. Music is the easiest way to connect with a person.

Each of us have met a fair share of people and only struck a conversation with them based on their music choice and taste. Apart from the fantasy of growing up and becoming a cricketer, pilot or doctor, I’m sure the one thing most of us wanted to be was a rockstar. Just to live your whole life playing your instrument and creating music and lyrics is a fantasy which we have all seen ourselves live. And let’s not forget the all the attention, money and the fact that you’re doing something you love, that comes hand in hand with being a famous musician.

In India we have some form of music in everything we do, whether it’s a wedding ceremony or a prayer meeting, music is always a major part of the ordeal. Even every time we go out to a club or for a party the first thing that makes or breaks the party is the music. This shows us how music is used to enhance and boost every situation. There are music festivals held the world over for music lovers of literally every different genre. How boring would life be without music? There would be nothing to help us feel, and to inspire us to be better then what we are. Music stirs every emotion within us and so often we get the feeling of complete awe after listening to a song.

Musicians write and sing about everything from love to politics, certain artists have made a tremendous difference politically and culturally, the best examples being Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. Their music will live on within the hearts of others for generations.
Bob Marley, Live in Concert

Even when we’re driving, the best thing to do is just turn on your stereo and turn up the volume. The feeling of driving on a nice open road while listening to your favorite song or artist is the closest it gets to bliss, so come be a part of the Swift life by sharing with us your favorite song when you’re stepping on the gas while cruising across the highway.

Also, check out the latest issue of the Swift life magazine on our facebook page which is a tribute to all our favorite artists who helped make this world a happier place with their beautiful lyrics and harmonies. So in the words of the legendary Jim Morrison of The Doors, “yeah, keep your eyes on the road, your hand upon the wheel...”

Live the Swift Life

We have spoken at great length about the personality of a Swift owner in our previous posts. About how a Swift owner would never shy away from a challenge and how the bond between him and his Swift is a lot more than that of just a car and its owner. That’s why a Swift owner would never do anything to damage or harm his Swift and his Swift would never give up on him in the direst of situations. This is what makes a Swift owner a risk taker by nature and 2012 is all about taking those risks and living the Swift life.

There are several adventure sports which adrenaline junkies thrive on, it gives one the feeling of being superhuman and performing acts that require a nerve of steel and a will to pull off the impossible. Let’s take a look at one of the most popular adventure sports, bungee jumping.

Most people get a thrill out of jumping off a really high diving board into the pool but imagine the adrenaline rush when you jump off a structure that’s soars to the sky. Standing on the edge of a mountain with just the elastic chord tied to your ankles, and taking one look all around you to admire the view that engulfs you. After that all you hear is the final countdown and all that’s left, is to take the leap of faith and feel like a bird, free-falling through the clouds at uncontrollable speeds. The thrill lies in the jump itself and the rebounds once you’ve reached the end of your fall. There are several great places to bungee jump, the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado stands at 1,053 feet and is the tallest suspended bridge in the world, now picture jumping of that structure, can you even imagine the rush that would give you?

If you want to make sure whether you will be able to handle the bungee experience, you could head over to Rishikesh, which has India’s highest bungee platform, which stands at 83 meters. This would be a good start to see whether you have the will and the nerves to survive a bungee jump.

So what are you waiting for? Get out of that rut and stop leading a monotonous life. Take a risk every once in a while and experience the thrills and adventure that you would never be able to sitting at your desk the entire day. Live a little extra for yourself and be a part of the Swift life.

Unbeatable Performance, unbeatable Swift

One wouldn’t mind buying a decent looking car whose performance is brilliant, but a good looking car with mediocre performance wouldn’t be considered by many. The secret behind the success of any car is performance; it’s what sets apart one car from another. A car which boasts of a good performance and low maintenance is most likely to do well in the market.

In this post we shall talk about the performance of the Swift and how its leagues above all the other cars in its class.

Let’s first talk about the engine, as that’s the most vital part of any car. The engine of the car is comparable to the heart in the human body as it gives life to the car.

The petrol variant of the Maruti Swift is powered by a 1200cc patented K-series engine. The increased power output of 87ps makes for a much quicker and responsive driving experience. What really sets the Swift apart is that it’s the only car in its class which has a 16-valve light weight DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft). This creates more durability and considerably cuts down the friction in the engine. The new Swift boasts of a better mileage than its predecessor, 18.6kmpl to be precise. The K-series engine’s are very light weight as they are all aluminum, this makes for a superior power to weight ratio and also increases the spark plug life to 40,000km and oil change intervals to 10,000kms.

The diesel variant comes to life with Maruti’s award winning DDiS engine. The flawless tag team of the turbochargers and intercoolers initiate efficient combustion which adds to the torque. The 16-valve cylinder head makes fuel combustion more efficient and emissions cleaner; this boosts the mileage to 22.9 kmpl. Diesel cars are always more expensive to maintain compared to petrol variants, however, the Chain Drive Timing System and Auto Tenstioner initiate accurate valve timings which make the engine maintenance free.

Another thing that sets the Swift apart from the clutter is the RBSS (Rally Based Suspension System). This system makes the car more robust and boosts the ride quality. The new Swift is lighter in weight compared to its predecessor which helps improve the overall driving dynamics

The Swift is also equipped with a next generation ABS braking system, which includes Motor Speed Regulation which keeps all the control in the hands of the driver. To add to this, the Swift has a Boost Assist System (BAS), which makes stopping in emergency situations a piece of cake.

These are just a handful of things which set the Swift apart in a league of its own. After all, there is a reason why the Swift has been the only car to win the ICOTY (Indian Car of the Year) award twice, once in 2006 and now in 2012. The Swift has always been the epitome of its segment and has been looked at as an example to follow, by all other car makers.

A day without laughter is a day wasted. -Charlie Chaplin

Wouldn't we all agree with the good old saying “laughter is the best medicine”? However bad a mood or angry we are, just one good hearty laugh can make it all go away in a jiffy. Humour can make the worst situations and scenarios pass by in a flash. Don’t we all love spending time with people who are funny? Just their presence and the way they perceive things, make us feel better and happier. We all must have noticed how contagious laughter is, if someone is laughing sitting right next to you, more often than not you will join in on the joke and start laughing. Being around happy and fun people definitely makes you happier, as your emotional state not only depends on your thoughts and actions but also majorly on the people who are around you.

Laughter can lift up the mood of an entire group of people as it’s so contagious. Rarely do you see a group of people where a few are laughing and others scowling and sulking. Laughter also increases communication and social interactions. Another great thing about humour is that it keeps you from thinking about negative emotions like anger and stress and helps you make the most of the smaller, more positive emotions.

In all our previous blog posts we have spoken about the relationship shared between a Swift and a Swift owner in a more serious manner. However this does not mean that Swift owners and the Swift itself are all work and no play. Having fun is a major part of the Swift’ repertoire and this is why we are having an entire laughter celebration on our Swift fan page. We are going to be talking about every aspect of humour and laughter, right from funny pranks you could play on people around you to jokes on office clowns. We strongly urge you to go check out our laughter celebration tab and get your daily dose of laughter.
